Rogers disappointed with UCD reversal

Following Monday night's defeat (1-2) in the League of Ireland Premier division against UCD at Belfield, St Patrick's Athletic goalkeeper Gary Rogers will turn his attention to this Saturday's visit of Sligo Rovers to Inchicore for a crucial game at the top of the table. St Pat's needed to win at Belfield to maintain their prospects of challenging for the title, but in an unusual twist, it was another Meath man, David O'Connor from Trim, who scored the opening goal for the students. "It was disappointing to lose on Monday night, but UCD are playing well at the moment and still have to meet Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers," stated Rogers. "If we can beat Sligo Rovers on Saturday night it will be a big result for us and then we have the FAI Cup semi-final coming up against Shelbourne at Tolka Park. "After losing out at the semi-final stage last season it would be great to get to the final this year against either Bohs or Sligo Rovers at the Aviva on Sunday 6th November. "The semi-final will be a big game for both clubs, the fact that we will be playing a First Division side does not guarantee an easy game for us, we will have to be at our best, but if we go about our business properly we should get through. "We also have to play Derry City in the league so we will have a say in where the title goes, but it would appear that it's Shamrock Rovers to lose at this stage as they have a game in hand on the other contenders. "We also have a Leinster Senior Cup final next Monday night against Bohs at Dalymount so it will be a hectic few weeks for us and we also have to make sure that we qualify for Europe again, we can't afford to make any more mistakes at this stage," he added. St Patrick's Athletic fixtures (league unless stated): Saturday 8th October - v Sligo Rovers at Inchicore (7.30); Monday 10th October v Bohemians at Dalymount Park (Leinster Senior Cup final); 15th / 17th October - v Shelbourne (away FAI Cup semi-final); Friday 21st October v Derry City at Inchicore; Friday 28th October - v Drogheda Utd (away).
