Cyclists should keep off footpaths

Dear sir - While walking on a footpath going towards the centre of Navan town one morning recently, I was startled to hear the sound of a bicycle whizzing past me. Then when suggesting that the young pedaller cycle on the road, the reply included an expletive. People cycling on footpaths in Navan has been a continuing irritant for a few years and there have been instances of collisions with pedestrians with young cyclists being the main offenders. Surely it is not asking too much for all cyclists to use the roads where there is plenty of room and they should not be in danger from motorists. There are even some cycling paths in places. Perhaps parents and school teachers could advise pupils on the matter. Yours, Eric Rice, Trim Road, Navan.
