Hundreds already signed up for third Kells Pink Ribbon Walk

Pink Ribbon Walk fever is spreading like wildfire as momentum builds up for the third annual Kells event next month. Local people, community and sporting groups and businesses are all throwing their support behind this fund-raising event for Action Breast Cancer. Stylist and TV presenter Barbara McMahon will be on hand to launch a Pink Fun Day in the Drogheda Specsavers Store today (Wednesday). The staff will be handing out spot prizes and encouraging customers and passers-by to sign up for the Kells Pink Ribbon Walk. There will also be a Pink Fun Day on Friday 19th at Gormley's Pharmacy in Kells Shopping Centre, with giveaways and makeovers for people who sign up to the walk on the day. People can also raise a glass for Pink Ribbon at a wine tasting evening in Jack's Railway Bar, Kells, from 8pm on Thursday 25th August. Admission is €5. For those interested in the 10km run, personal trainer Liam Newman will lead a one-hour training run at 8pm tomorrow (Thursday) at Drewstown House. Meanwhile, members of both Kells Blackwater FC and North Meath Rugby Club have volunteered to help as stewards on the day of the walk on Saturday 3rd September. The Pink Ribbon team had a great response from the public when they took stands at Navan Town Centre and The Grange in Oristown (home to Kells Blackwater Football Club) and will be returning to both venues this coming Saturday. Hundreds of people have already registered for the walk, which, together with its sister walk in Killaloe, Co Clare, has to date raised over €300,000 for Action Breast Cancer, a programme of the Irish Cancer Society. Lead sponsors Specsavers recently held two successful fundraising drives in its Navan and Mullingar stores, with the third taking place in Drogheda this week. Local businesseses, including Specsavers, the Meath Chronicle and The Loft Restaurant in Navan and the Headfort Arms Hotel and Flo Web Design in Kells - have already committed to entering teams. Over 600 men and women took part in the event last year. All participants registered by this Friday will be entered into a free draw to win a package that includes two half-day spa breaks at the Headfort Arms Hotel Spa Rooms (including a full body massage, facial and manicure) and two pampering hampers from The Handmade Soap Company. The second prize is two tickets to the Kells Chamber of Commerce Garden Party on the night of the walk. All money raised in sponsorship goes directly to Action Breast Cancer to fund local and national services for people who have been affected by breast cancer. Register online at www.pinkribbonwalk.ie or pick up a registration form in Navan at Specsavers, and in Kells at SuperValu, the Headfort Arms Hotel, Dunnes The Premier House and the Kells Chamber of Commerce office. The registration fee is €20.
