Murtagh back in action

Johnny Murtagh returned to action at Leopardstown last night and won the Leopardstown Cup for trainer Michael Halford with Barrow island. The popular Bohermeen jockey laid his father Micheal to rest on Wednesday afternoon in his home parish. The Leopardstwon Cup was the final of the HRI-promoted Stars Go Racing television series and will be televised later this month. As well as a Meath winner of the race, the runner-up was from the Joanna Morgan stable, Six Silver Lane, with former Kildare footballer Willie McCreery's Colour Of Love in third place. At least on this occasion Meath got the better of Kildare - if you want to look at it that way? Apprentice jockey Colin Keane added another winner to his tally ahead of a return to his studies next month. The 16-year-old is the son of local trainer Gerry and won the apprentice handicap with UnHinged Kells owner Norman Ormiston's Seeharn, third in the Athasi Stakes earlier this year and also ran in the 1,000 Guineas, won a handicap for Moynalty jockey Declan McDonogh. A Listed race at Limerick next week could be the next assignment. Ger Lyons took the group three Desmond Stakes with Future Generation under Keagan Latham from the favourite Emiyna and Joanna Morgan's Moran Gra in third place.
