Loughcrew art work presented to Solstice

The Meath Arts Group has donated a piece of collaborative art work to Meath County Council, which is currently on display in the Solstice Arts Centre. The piece, which uses 30 canvasses to depict Loughcrew was presented to the council to mark the launch of their new website last Thursday. The website was officially launched by Cllr Eoin Holmes, cathaoirleach of Meath County Council. In order to take advantage of the latest social networking possibilities, the group has updated its website and created a user-friendly, accessible and interactive platform for the arts in Meath. Each group member has full access to his or her own webpage ensuring that the site is regularly updated with the latest exhibition, classes, art works, opportunites and news. For the launch event, members of the group had chosen an image of Loughcrew and had created a collaborative art work using thirty canvasses. This image was then enlarged, segmented and loosely drawn over the canvasses. Each artist received a numbered canvas and was asked to reproduce the work via the outline they were given, in their own style, on the canvas in their own chosen medium - painting, pottery, stained glass, textiles, collage, photography and mixed media. On completion, all thirty canvasses were brought together and arranged in order to present one large final image from all the seperate segments. This was the first time that all the images had been placed together in order. Meath Arts Group were delighted to donate this collobarative piece to the Meath County Council Arts Collection as a representation of the artists, Meath Arts Group and visual arts in Meath. The image can be viewed at Solstice Arts Centre until Friday and will subsequently be hung at a venue to be announced at a later date.
