Sharon Horgan hosting 'Have I Got News For You' .

Sharon Horgan has plenty of news for us!

Bellewstown actor Sharon Horgan has been cast in BBC's feature length film 'The Borrowers' for BBC1, alongside another Irish actor, Robert Sheehan. Set to air over Christmas, 'The Borrowers' is an adaptation of Mary Norton's classic children's books about the world of tiny Borrowers who live under the floorboard and must borrow things to survive while keeping their existence unknown. Horgan, sister of Leinster and Ireland rugby player, Shane, was recently one of the guest hosts of the comedy panel show, 'Have I Got News for You'. She plays Homily, the mother of head-strong teenage Borrower Arrietty Clock played by Aisling Loftus. Robert Sheehan (Misfits, Killing Bono) takes on the role of Spiller, a wild tearaway who helps Arrietty after her parents are captured by an evil professor. Other cast in the television movie include Stephen Fry (QI, Bones) as evil Professor Mildeye, Victoria Wood (Dinnerladies), Shaun Dooley (Eden Lake) and Christopher Eccleston (The Others, Heroes). The show is written by Ben Vanstone. Filming on the production will take place this summer. The feature-length film will be produced by Working Title Television and directed by Tom Harper (Misfits, This is England 86). The BBC previously adapted the Borrowers books in the early 90s for a Sunday teatime series called 'The Borrowers' and 'The Borrowers Afield'. It has been commissioned by Ben Stephenson, controller of BBC Drama commissioning and BBC1 controller Danny Cohen. Robert Sheehan is attached to Stephen Bradley's 'Wayfaring Strangers' and Glenn Leyburn's 'Good Vibrations' which are both due to shoot at the end of this summer. Sharon Horgan will also be busy this summer filming for her role in upcoming BBC Three comedy series 'Life Stories'. The Irish BAFTA nominated creator of comedy series, 'Pulling' is currently in pre-production with 'Life Stories'. The series is created and written by comedian Holly Walsh (All Over the Place) and Horgan who will take the show's lead role as Helen Stephens, a woman falsely imprisoned for the murder of her boss. The funny woman will play Stephens whose incarceration is the start of a series of events; her fiancé and alibi, Justin, prefers her being in prison because he just can't face dumping her and her younger sister Laura is quite happy she's inside as she's moved into her sister's flat and has taken her place in the pub quiz team. Moreover, Henry, the weirdo from work, is beginning to realise his weekly prison visits are the only guaranteed way to spend time with her and her lawyer, Tony, is a specialist in 'injury at work' claims and thinks shouting "You can't handle the truth" amounts to a convincing defence. The six 30 minute series is set to shoot in the BBC studios this summer, with Jo Sargent (Absolutely Fabulous) on board as the executive producer for the broadcaster. The show's director is TBC. The show is set to broadcast in the autumn on BBC Three. Sharon began her comedy career when she jointly won the BBC New Comedy award for sketch writing in 2001 with her writing partner Dennis Kelly. She has since written and appeared in award-winning comedy shows such as 'The Friday Night Project', 'Absolute Power' and 'The Pilot Show', as well as the feature films, 'Imagine Me and You' and 'Valiant'. She received a BAFTA Best Sitcom nomination in 2006 for 'Pulling' which she co-wrote with Dennis Kelly. In October 2010, she starred in the US/UK comedy 'The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret'.
