New all-weather facilities for Drumconrath schoolchildren

A large group of parents and pupils, along with representatives of local sporting organisations, turned out on Thursday last for the official opening of the new astro-turf pitch at Drumconrath Primary School. The play facilities for the pupils in the school have been greatly enhanced by the provision of the new facility and all the pupils are delighted to have an all-weather area for games and sport. The official opening was carried out by Terence Skelly, a past pupil of the school and a current member of the Meath senior football panel. The school community was proud and delighted to welcome Terence back to the school for the occasion. The new pitch was blessed by Fr Finian Connaughton, PP, in the presence of the board of management, teachers, pupils, parents and the contractors who were involved in the construction of the facility. Principal Sean Egan thanked the Department of Education and Skills for providing the funding and said the new facility would enable the teachers to fully implement the Primary School Physical Education Curriculum. With the opening of this new dry area, play and games facilities have been considerably expanded and enhanced. Tributes were paid to the design team, led by Breen Jackson and Colm Lennon of Finnegan, Jackson & Associates; the main contractor, Martin McCluskey, and to Colm Coyle, whose team were responsible for the laying of the pitch. Thanks also were extended to those who helped in various ways to make the development possible. After the official opening, Colm Coyle, Terence Skelly and local coach, Alan Dunne, supervised a coaching session for the school's pupils and ran their expert eyes over potential future county stars!
