Kells Dads in trip to Tipp

Thurles is the destination for this year's staging of the Kells Dads' Cycle charity event. Officially titled 'Kells Windows Restoration Systems' Dads Cycle for Charity Tour, the event is now in its sixth year. In previous years, over €70,000 has been raised for worthy causes in the Kells area such as St Vincent de Paul, Meals-on-Wheels, Children of Chernobyl and Crossakiel Young At Heart. The charity was started by a group of ex-Drumbaragh GFC footballers who got together five years ago to give something back to the local community who had supported all local GAA clubs in the Kells area over the years. The cycle will depart Kells for Thurles on Friday 17th June and the cyclists will stay in Hayes's Hotel, where the GAA was founded in 1884. On Saturday 18th June, they will cycle to the Rock of Cashel and back to Thurles, and they will return to Kells on Sunday 19th June. As the cyclists return home, people will have a chance to join them on the last leg of their journey from Clonmellon to Kells. It is hoped that many of the local clubs in the Kells area will sponsor some of their players to join the cycle wearing their club colours to make it a colourful finish to the event. All local clubs will be notified in the next week. This year, a couple of extra events have been added. On Friday 10th June, a poker classic will be held in Muldoon's Bar, Kells, at 9pm. On Sunday 26th June, the charity will hold its annual church gate collection. For more information on the events, call Frankie Lynch on (086) 314 5520 or Brendan Caffrey (086) 382 8241. The Dads' Cycle for charity has acknowledged the support it has received from main sponsor, Kells Windows Restoration Systems, since starting in 2006, and other sponsors, including Smith's Bar, David Campbell, Muldoon Brothers, Sean Maguire, Tom Shine and Masita sportswear.
