Seamus McEnaney has to select new selectors from Meath.

Meath selectors must be appointed

Meath GAA Co Committee has issued a statement this morning confirming that two selectors from the Royal County must be appointed to the Meath management team. The statement, which was issued this morning at 8.45am, indicates that Meath senior football team manager Seamus McEnaney must now nominate two selectors to replace Liam Harnan and Barry Callaghan. The two replacements must be from Meath. They will have to be ratified. It is not clear if the club delegates will have to ratify the selectors or if it will be sufficient for the management committee to ratify the selectors. The norm in the past has been that selectors for county teams have to be ratified by delegates at a Co Committee meeting. That would indicate, if the rules are strictly applied, that a special Co Committee meeting will have to be convened if the selectors are to be in place before the game against Kildare. It is understood that the next Co Committee meeting (June) will be scheduled for Monday 13th June. There is speculation that Graham Geraghty, who returned to the panel last week as a player, might also be considered by the manager for a position as a selector. THE OFFICIAL STATEMENT It is with regret that Coiste na Mí C.L.G. confirms the resignations of Liam Harnan and Barry Callaghan as Senior Team Selectors. We wish to place on record our sincere gratitude for their efforts and commitment since their respective appointments. Coiste Bainistíochta has met and decided that in accordance with Bye Law 38 Fo Dlighte na Mí 2010, that the team Manager Seamus McEnaney be asked to nominate two selectors for ratification. Furthermore, in accordance with the wishes of Coiste Bainistíochta and Coiste Contae these two selectors must be from within County Meath.
