Joe Bonner (Independent)

Cllr Joe Bonner, from Ashbourne, says he is contesting this election following repeated requests from the people. A native of Glenties, Co Donegal, he is married with three children and has lived in Ashbourne for 29 years. He is a telecommunications network designer. He believes that Meath East needs a genuine independent with no party political affiliations to represent the ordinary people's views, and is running a posterless campaign. He was elected to Meath County council in 2004 and re-elected in 2009 with an increase of 70 per cent in his vote. He says he will continue to be a voice for integrity and independence. Cllr Bonner said he aims to provide leadership in developing indigenous resources and will support innovation in the development of agriculture, tourism industries and alternative energy strategies. He says he will promote the provision of the best telecommunications and broadband infrastructure and support ideas pertaining to the smart economy and take the lead in getting a quality water supply to homes and business. He adds he wants to stop the neglect of health services and the constant attacks on public servants' pay and jobs.
