Kells Market to reopen at Farrell Street

The Kells Food and Crafts Market will re-open this Saturday at Farrell Street. The snow and ice during December affected the newly-opened market, but spirits have not been dampened and a lot of interest is expected in this weekend's first 2011 market. It will be held every Saturday from 8am to 6pm in Doyle's Yard, Farrell Street. Brendan Doyle, who is behind this project, said he is hopeful that the market will thrive in 2011. “A lot of people are keen to see this market succeed in the centre of Kells, so I am making all the effort possible to make it easy for both traders and shoppers to come here,†he said. “I was born in Kells and started my first business here during the recession in the '80s,†he went on. “I owe a large debt of gratitude to the people of Kells who supported me then and am hoping to give back to the town in an effort to help people to shop locally.†He said the market will contribute to the variety of products available on Farrell Street. Traders expected this Saturday will be selling freshly baked breads, a full line of wholesale dried fruits, nuts and olives, freshly-made crêpes, fresh coffee and waffles, antiques and craft products. Local food and craft producers are invited to be a part of the venture as the emphasis is on locally sourced products. Stalls will be free this Saturday so that stallholders can test the market.
