Hunt horse manure left on Kells street
Dear sir - The environment section of Meath County Council has been busying itself recently in erecting signs warning dog-walkers to 'clean up' after their pets make deposits or they might face hefty fines. Whenever taking my beloved, furry pet for a walk, I always go armed with the necessary equipment to make sure that no dirt is left on road, footpaths or greens after he 'goes to the toilet.' Although there are some dog-owners who are obviously content to leave droppings where they are deposited, the feeling is that environmental officers do display a certain amount of discrimination towards dog-owners. There have been instances of wardens hassling people who have gone to admirable extremes in their kindness towards dogs. On New Year's Day in my town, horses belonging to a local hunt make a filthy mess of streets but it is doubtful if any action will be taken by the council. Similarly, I have observed elephants from circuses making massive deposits on paths while crows are getting off scot-free after leaving droppings all over the place! Yours, Frankie Fallon, Maudlin, Kells.
