Ham Sandwich will headline the Derek Nally tribute concert in Dublin on Wednesday.

Rescheduled Nally benefit gig in Whelan’s this week

Kells band Ham Sandwich will be joined by a number of acts in a tribute concert for the late Derek Nally tonight (Wednesday) in Dublin. Blink, Pugwash, and The Gandhis, as well as some very special surprise guests with DJs later, will play in Whelan's, Wexford St, in the rescheduled concert, with the proceeds going to the Nally family. The popular promoter, manager and fondly loved raconteur died of a heart attack on Thursday 15 July last. His sudden passing sent shockwaves throughout the entire Irish music community. From Drumree and living in Drogheda, he worked with the great and the good over the years including Judy Collins, Kate and Anna McGarrigle, Bert Jansch, John Cale, Guy Clarke, Townes Van Zandt, John Martyn, Allen Toussaint, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, Alex Chilton, Arlo Guthrie, Booker T, and John Cooper Clarke, to mention just a few. He also managed the Irish acts Juliet Turner and Ham Sandwich, steering their careers with remarkable passion and enthusiasm. Derek was particularly generous with his time when it came to offering advice to up and coming musicians, promoters and managers. His encyclopedic knowledge of music coupled with his straight-forward business ideals served him well in a long and esteemed career. His legacy is a positive example to everyone who works in the music industry. Ham Sandwich have released their second album 'White Fox', the follow-up to their 2008 award winning debut long-player 'Carry the Meek'. The album was produced and mixed by Karl Odlum and recorded at Sun Studios, Temple Bar, and May Lodge, and was mastered by the legendary Abbey Road Studio, London, engineer Peter Mew who worked with David Bowie, The Beatles, ELO, and Bob Marley. Derek Nally meant a great deal to the band and was a major part in helping them bring their music to the foreground in Ireland.
