Moynalty celebrates 50 years of ICA activities

Moynalty guild of the Irish Countrywomen's Association (ICA) recently marked its 50th anniversary with a celebration in the lcoal Munitir na Tire Hall. The event was attended by members, past members, parish priest Fr Joseph McEvoy and Rev Joyce Rankin, Chruch of Ireland Rector in Bailieboro. Neighbouring guilds and local community organisations also joined the members, as did Caroline Power (Meath Federation president) and Jean Keogh (Meath Federation secretary). A three-course meal was served by A&R Catering, Mullagh, and the event was opened with a welcome address by the current president of the Moynalty guild, Nellie Smyth, who was a founding member of the guild. The hall was beautifully decorated by members in the ICA colours of blue, white and green, and flower arrangements by Anna McGovern, Ellen Ward, Ann McKenna and Imelda McHugh added to the atmosphere. Nellie Smyth, Rosemary Finnegan and Paula O'Reilly made a wall-hanging and banner for the occasion and Paula also made a delicious anniversary cake. A large selection of arts, crafts and home produce made by members was on display. A raffle was held after dinner and was followed by presentations of bouquets of flowers to Nellie Smyth, Caroline Power and Jean Keogh. The guild was awarded a certificate in recognition of its 50th anniversary from ICA headquarters in Dublin. Music was supplied by The Lone Ranger and a fantastic night of fun and dancing was enjoyed by all.
