Parkvilla’s Chris Kennedy sustained a bad leg injury against Skerries on Sunday in the Leinster Senior League Div 1A.

Maximum points for Parkvilla at a price

Parkvilla continued their upward push in the Leinster Senior League Div 1A when they recorded a merited victory over hosts Skerries Town on Sunday. The Navan side are now sixth in the race for the title and this was their second win of the season following a series of draws. Encouragingly for manager Brendan Kennedy (pictured), his team has only lost once in the league and next Friday night will face a stern test when they host Pegasus, 7.45, who are one point behind the Meath men. Victory on Friday night will sustain the momentum, but the manager may have to plan without the input of key defender Chris Kennedy who was brought to hospital on Sunday following a red-card challenge by a Skerries player. Parkvilla claimed maximum points from the trip to Dublin and were ahead as early as the 10th minute when a superb through ball from Colin Lynch found Dave O’Neill who neatly chipped the goalie. Soon after, Kennedy was in the process of making a clearance on the edge of his own penalty area when he was the victim of an over-the-top challenge which earned an instant red card. Kennedy was brought to hospital and was released later that evening after having stitches inserted in an ugly gash. Kenny Ratty deputised for the injured defender and when play resumed the Meath men broke up field in a quick counter attack. Gary McCrossan and Kevin Dunphy combined to set up O’Neill who added his second goal for a 2-0 interval cushion. Skerries launched a strong challenge after the break, but their resistance was broken when Wayne Russell set O’Neill up for his hat trick. With 10 minutes remaining Ratty sent Jamie Blake clear and the teenager showed remarkable composure as he knocked in his side’s fourth goal for the biggest win of the season. Best for Parkvilla were Russell, Andrew Rogers, Andy Williamson and Lynch.
