Trim at centre of Positive Ageing Week

Positive Ageing Week Celebrations will start this week in Trim, which has been chosen as one of 15 towns nationally to host the Positive Ageing Week, which runs from 24th September to 2nd October. Positive Ageing Week promises to be an action-packed week with a mixture of informative, practical and funs events taking place across Trim. It will be launched at 10.30am on Friday in Trim Castle Hotel by Fianna Fail TD Mary O'Rourke. The launch will include a preview of the week's events and information about Positive Ageing Week along with tea, coffee and scones. At 12 noon there will be a tour of Trim Castle and an audiovisual presentation 'The Power & the Glory' in the Trim Heritage Centre. On Sunday, the popular Trim Chamber Market returns to Market Street from 11am to 5pm. In addition to the local favourites, the market will also include a French market, featuring delicious and authentic French produce. Also on Sunday afternoon, Rev Robert Jones and Fr Sean Henry will lead an Evening Prayer of the Church. This is an invitation to prayer for all church communities including the Church of Ireland, Roman Catholic and all Christians. The Evening Prayer takes place at 4pm in St Patrick's Church, Patrick Street. Monday sees further events starting with a Senior's Leisure & Fitness Tour at Trim Aura Leisure Centre at 10.30am. Also on Monday, the Boyne Writers will present a fun afternoon of poetry and prose entitled 'Reliving The Past'. The afternoon will explore memories of school, growing up, parents and traditions such as jam-making. 'Reliving the Past' takes place in Knightsbridge Village at 3pm. An indoor sports afternoon including whist, bingo and music takes place on Tuesday from 3pm in Trim GAA Club. The sports afternoon is organised by Trim Active Retirement and will include members of other active retirement groups. On Wednesday, Adrian Dunne's Pharmacy, in conjunction with Abbott Diabetes Care, will host a drop-in Seniors Health Check from 9.30am to 1pm on Market Street. Visitors can have their blood pressure and blood glucose levels checked free of charge. Later on Wednesday afternoon, local vocalist Matt Gilsenan and Frank Foley on guitar will present a Percy French Musical afternoon, which takes place in Knightsbridge Village at 3pm. On Thursday there will be an opportunity to visit the new OPW Headquarters in Trim with a guided architectural tour of the building. Places are limited so please contact the PAW committee to confirm a place in advance. Later that afternoon, the residents of St Joseph's will host an afternoon of singalong, comedy and craic at St Joseph's Community Nursing Unit, which takes place from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. On Friday UN International Day of Older Persons will be celebrated with a Know your Rights/Community Advocacy Morning followed by a tea dance. The Castle Arch Hotel will host the Know Your Rights and Community Advocacy Morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Speakers will include Citizens Information Centre, South Meath Social Economy, Age Action Ireland, Positive Age, the Garda Community Liason Officer, Sgt Dean Kearns, and Trim Family Resource Centre. The afternoon will conclude with a tea dance in Knightsbridge from 3pm to 5.30pm. Positive Ageing Week concludes with a family afternoon in Knightsbrook Hotel on Saturday 2nd October from 2.30pm.
