Navan and Trim firefighters battle Bohermeen blaze for six hours

Units from Navan and Trim Fire Service spent several hours battling a blaze at a disused furniture premises in Bohermeen early on Sunday morning. The alarm was raised early on Sunday morning and four appliances from Navan and Trim arrived at the scene. Because there was foam and upholstery stored at the premises, the environmental section of Meath County Council was also notified about the fire to make sure there was nothing toxic or hazardous being emitted by the flames. A water tanker also attended the scene. The firefighters brought the blaze under control and remained on the scene until midday dampening down the remains of the building. Geoff Boylan, who lives opposite the premises, said he was awoken by a passer-by at 6am on Sunday morning to warn them that the barn across the road from their house was on fire. He said the barn is about 100m from his house and he was concerned that the foam stored there could be toxic. He added that there are two OAPs, four children and two adults living in his home. Mr Boylan said that the smoke could be seen five to six miles away and that there was thick black smoke rising high into the sky during the outbreak.
