Aldi plans to open new store in Clonee

Plans seeking permission for an Aldi discount foodstore in Clonee have been lodged with Meath County Council. This is the second proposed discount foodstore for the village, with a Lidl store already open in Clonee for a number of years. Planning permission is being sought by Shelman Properties Ltd for the construction of a single storey Aldi discount foodstore to include an off-licence at Main Street, Clonee, and will amend the previously permitted mixed used development on the site. The development envisages the demolition of existing substructures and foundations on the site, demolition of the existing timber hoarding around the boundary of the site and the construction of a foodstore with a gross floor area of 1,476sq m. The development includes 95 car parking spaces, associated landscaping and site development works on the 0.68 hectare (1.68 acre) application site, with two new vehicular access points to the site from Main Street, one of which will accommodate revised access arrangements to the existing Clonee Court apartment buildings and the second will provide access to the proposed foodstore. The site forms part of an overall site of 1.19 hectares (2.95 acres) and the proposed foodstore represents the first phase of a mixed use development on the entire lands. Future phases of the development on the balance of the lands will accommodate residential and commercial development and will be subject to a separate planning application.
