Two suffer stab wounds in Kells incident

A brawl which broke out in Kells on Friday afternoon resulted in two men being taken to hospital suffering from stab wounds. A father and son received stab wounds to the face during the row which took place just off Maudlin Street. The row broke out between a number of men, resulting in knife wounds to the two people, one of whom was in his 50s and the other in his 30s. One of the men is believed to have received up to 16 stiches to his face, while the other was also treated for facial wounds. They were released from hospital later that day. It is understood both men are from the Kells area. A major Garda investigation was launched following the incident and the area was sealed off for a period on Friday afternoon. Gardai are following a definite line of enquiry and say arrests in connection with the incident are expected shortly.
