Bernard Dunne to get 50-mile Moynalty charity cycle underway

A charity cycle to raise funds for the Irish Heart and Lung Transplant Association will be hosted by Moynalty Cycling Club this Saturday, 14th August. The cycling club has chosen the Irish Heart and Lung Transplant Association as its beneficiary this year to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first heart transplant in Ireland. The 50-mile spin will begin in Moynalty at 11am and will continue to Kells, Athboy, Trim, Navan and back to Moynalty. It is expected that approximately 150 cyclists will take part in the event. Registration takes place at 10am and all are welcome to take part in the spin. Two local people, Martin Lynch and Gerry Coldrick, successfully underwent life-changing transplant operations and, with this year marking 25 years since the first tranplant operation in Ireland, Moynalty Cycling Club wanted to undertake a fundraiser for the charity. The cycle will be started by boxer Bernard Dunne, who will cut the ribbon along with Martin Lynch and Gerry Coldrick. Martin, who received his transplant 15 years ago, will also take part in the cycle. On Saturday night, there will be a marquee with a band and barbecue in Moynalty's threshing field. All are welcome to come along. Admission is just €10 for the barbecue and entertainment and people can bring their own drink with them. A big crowd is expected and local popular band 'Say la V' will provide the entertainment from 10pm. All proceeds will go to the Irish Heart and Lung Transplant Association.
