Large crowds enjoy Navan Summerfest

There was a great atmosphere in Navan on Monday afternoon for the town's second annual Summer Festival which took place at Andy Brennan Park. A large crowd turned out for the event which boasted plenty of entertainment for all the family. One of the highlights of the festival was the 'daft raft race' along the Boyne where 20 teams battled it out to be first past the finish line. The 'Dinghy Duck' challenge also attracted plenty of spectators as the ducks were collected along the river. Other attractions included live music, a teddy bears' picnic, a 'Navan's Got Talent' competition, a dog show, a bonny baby competition, fishing competitions and more. The children also enjoyed colouring competitions, bouncy castles and face-painting as well as a family sports day. The festival finished with a great night out for the adults in the Newgrange Hotel where Jessie's '60s, '70s and '80s fancy dress disco took place with dancing into the night. Navan Summer Festival was organised by the Navan Shamrock Festival Committee which also organises the town's St Patrick's Day festivities each year. The event was sponsored by Navan Town Council and supported by Navan Gardai, Civil Defence, the Fire Service and River Rescue service.
