Brendan Bowyer.

Legendary singer returns to Farmer's Hall

Virginia Show Society is bringing the show dance back to its roots on Saturday 31st July in Virginia College Hall, which is built on the site of the old Farmer's Hall, when the legendary Brendan Bowyer and his band will perform. The hall is being decorated for the night, and will be draped similar to Killinkere Hall was for the Saw Doctors at the Killinkere Jamboree. The new floor is in magnificent shape and is just waiting for real hucklebuckers to enjoy memories of the best nights of their lives during the heydays of Virginia Carnival. Bowyer and his band will perform all of his hits and much more, and will be joined by a special guest, his daughter Aisling.  Together, they put on a show not to be missed.        Best known for his days with The Royal Showband and The Big Eight, Bowyer has been splitting his time between Las Vegas and Ireland for nearly four decades. The Beatles played support to him, Elvis was a fan, and he is still full of the raw energy that brought him to fame 50 years ago.    'The Hucklebuck' was an international hit for Brendan and the Royal, and he recorded six of the eight number one hits of the showband. Aisling Bowyer has won a world music festival in San Diego. She started performing with her father ten years ago and then made the transition into headlining her own show in Las Vegas. She sang Kristy McCall's part of 'Fairytale of New York' at the Point Depot and RDS with Shane McGowan and the Pogues, and recorded the song with her father on his 'Follow On' album.    Brendan Bowyer still cherishes his memories of his early days in the Royal Showband and annual visits to the Farmers' Hall in Virginia.  Brendan always has a strong connection with Cavan, as his former manager and friend Connie Lynch is a well known Cavan man. Doors at 10.30pm, with tickets available in Multisound Cavan; Pat Clarke, Ballyjamesduff,: John Ed Sheanon, Bailieboro; E O'Reilly & Son Ltd, Virginia or direct from the show office, (049) 854 7197.
