Bananas in Brussels...Sheila Garvey and Shelly Doyle take part in a parade in the Belgian capital at the weekend.

Bananas without pyjamas in European fundraising adventure

We may not be able to follow the Irish team in the World Cup but Bananas fancy dress and dance wear shop in Navan has certainly given locals something interesting to follow. Two staff members, director Sheila Garvey and employee Shelly Doyle, have undertaken a huge overseas adventure, all in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. Last Friday, the pair boarded a one-way flight to Frankfurt, Germany, with nothing but what they wore, which included a banana costume and a very minimum budget. The two have given themselves the task of trying to make their way back home on only the generosity of others, which includes accommodation, travel and food. They intend to travel to Cologne in Germany, Belgium, Holland and France. The two brave bananas then plan to take the ferry from Calais to London, arriving back on home soil this Friday, 2nd July. All this will to be achieved while the backpackers are wearing their banana costumes. Radio station i105-107 will be following their progress with daily reports and speaking directly with the girls. Donations can be made in Bananas Fancy Dress & Dancewear shop at 16 Railway Street, Navan. The rest of the staff at the shop have wished the intrepid duo the best of luck and safe travels, adding: "Let's hope they don't meet any gorillas en route!"
