Trip down memory lane for Mercy school's past pupils

As part of the centenary celebrations of St Joseph's Mercy Primary School, Navan, an open afternoon was held for all past pupils of the school. It was an opportunity for past pupils to come and enjoy the company of their former schoolfriends/teachers and view old photos from the school's 100-year history. There was a huge turnout for the event with former pupils travelling from all parts of Ireland for the occasion. Some past pupils had even planned their holidays from overseas to coincide with the event. Visitors enjoyed a trip down memory lane as they viewed the huge collection of old photos that were on display. There was great interest in the old choir photos and the programmes from past musicals. Many visitors came in family groups, among them the Nelsons, Heaneys, Brennans, Byrnes and Jones families. Some of the oldest attending were Mary Nelson, Elsie Graham and Nell Jones with ages ranging from 90 to 97. All thoroughly enjoyed the day and many expressed the wish that other school friends and family members who could not attend would get the opportunity to visit the exhibition at some future date. The school has published a centenary book which contains many of the old photos that were on display at the exhibition, as well as memoirs of past pupils. It is available from the school at a cost of €10.
