Kells cllrs want bicycle rack for the town
The possibility of providing a bicycle rack in the car park at Kells Town Hall is to be examined by the town council. At a meeting of the council last week, Cllr Sarah Reilly proposed the provision of a cycle rack so that local people could avail of the 'Cycle to Work Scheme'. She said that, in order to avail of this scheme, participants have to show that they cycle some or all of the way to work and there were many who would cycle to the town hall, leave their bicycles there and get the bus to Dublin. She acknowledged that there may not be funding to provide the rack this year, but stressed that it would be a great asset to the town with the added advantage of closed circuit television (CCTV) coverage in the car park. Cllr Oliver Sweeney, who seconded the motion, said it would make a huge difference to the town and would not be that hard to finance. "When the M3 opens next month, people will be able to cycle up and down the town again," he said. Cllr Brian Collins said Kells will become a much greener town when the traffic is taken away from the centre of the town and the motion was well worth supporting. Cllr Bryan Reilly said cycling to and from work was something that was happening all over the country and Kells would have to play its part.
