Trim manager brings minister to work with him

Trim man Pat Melia brought fellow town resident, the Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey, to his job in Dublin to show him that companies are prepared to invest in jobs in the current climate. "It is important that the Government Minister knows that industry is doing its best to get our economy going again. So I invited our local minister to come up to my job in Nightline Delivers to meet the team and see for himself the invest Nightline has made in facilities and jobs," said Mr Melia, who is a manager in Nightline, the biggest privately-owned courier company in Ireland. The €20 million national hub, which facilitates the efficient and effective collection and delivery of 35,000 parcels every day, will play an important role in helping Irish industry return to profit in the coming months, according to the minister, when he visited the Nightline company. "Irish industry needs strong, cost-effective infrastructure to ensure that they can provide value for money for indigenous and international markets. As a member of the Government, I am heartened to see progressive companies like Nightline investing in the future and making sure that they have the latest technology and systems required to deliver a state-of-the-art service," he said. Nightline's parcel sorting centre at Mygan Park, at Junction 5 on the M50 in Finglas, extends to over 10,000 square metres and is the largest privately-owned sorting centre of its kind anywhere in Ireland. Nightline delivers over 35,000 parcels every day to every town and village in Ireland, including Northern Ireland. High value commodities such as consumer electronics, software and electrical goods are an important part of its business model. Its fleet of over 300 trucks and vans has the latest GPS and GPRS communications technology which allows the client to track, in real time, every single item. A €1 million marketing programme, including a new look, has also been implemented by Nightline. This investment included the immediate creation of 15 new positions in sales, marketing and customer service. The positions are based at Nightline's head office in Dublin and at its six locations throughout the Republic of Ireland. The sales and marketing initiative is expected to lead to 35 further new operational jobs at Nightline's main parcel sorting hub in Dublin, ranging from parcel-handling staff to self-employed van owner-operators.
