Kells Resource Centre in new premises

The Kells People's Resource Centre has moved to its new premises in the old Church of Ireland School building at Carrick Street. The centre, which provides vital services to families, jobseekers and the newly unemployed, as well as countless local community groups, is getting busier every day and the former premises in Church Street was too small for current needs. The Kells centre provides a drop-in support service, education and training, help and support to local families and community groups, counselling, employment rights, information, support and public access to computers and the internet as well as many other local services. The new facility features office space, an all-purpose room and training rooms and the use of the centre's facilities by local community groups is welcomed. Kells People's Resource Centre is made up of local people involved in the community and provides accommodation for projects such as Fáilte Isteach, smoking cessation services, the Money and Budgeting Advice Service (MABS) and Citizens' Information and Meath Women's Refuge. The resource centre also provides confidential and no- directive counselling services. This is an affordable and accessible service where clients pay on a sliding scale, depending on their circumstances and ability to pay. The employment rights information service is held there each Wednesday by appointment. The service provides information and support to local and migrant workers in dealing with employment related difficulties. The service is provided on a voluntary basis by Cllr Tommy Grimes. The centre also hosts a community mediation service to help community and resident groups, committees and neighbours to resolve conflict over matters such as committee disputes, noise, pets and children's behaviour.
