Dunderry money buys food for Haiti quake victims

The recent fundraising night at Horan's of Dunderry for Nancy Horan's sister, Sr Mary Hardiman, who is based in the earthquake-striken country, has raised €15,000. Events held in the locality included a churchgate collection, a ceili in Dunderry Hall, a collection from the Sacred Heart School in Drogheda and the pig-roasting in Horan's. "Many thanks to all who helped out those who donated prizes and those who gave their cash," Catherine Horan said. "Money is going directly to Sr Mary, who is based in St Marc's, a town outside Port Au Prince." Sr Mary Hardiman wrote to thank everybody, via email: "I am sending you a word of thanks for all your hard work with sending the money. I am overcome by the generosity of the people of Dunderry and the great spirit all have shown. We went to see the refugees and the orphans today and from the money we were able to buy food for them . "I told them that the money for the food came from a small village in Ireland called Dunderry. They all said a big thanks and we prayed for Ireland and sang a hymn of thanks to God. They told me they are happy to be in St Marc's as it does not smell of death like Port Au Prince. God help them. "We had great excitement today. A helicopter came bringing doctors and nurses to see the sick and suffering from the quake. It would make you cry to see them but the whole town of St Marc's came to see them. I took them all around as they are going to see sick people in a school and they have a hospital in a boat where they can operate. The people are glad to see them. Thanks again to everyone."
