O'Mahonys seeking OK for new training pitches

Navan O'Mahonys GAA Club is to apply for planning permission for a new training facility at Robinrath and Knockumber, Navan. The Navan club has advertised its intention to apply for planning permisson for the development of four sand-based GAA pitches on a 7.39 hectares site outside the town. The development includes the formation of four sand-based GAA pitches, pitch lighting for two pitches to the north and north-west of the site, connection to the Navan town public sewerage system and the erection of a maintenance equipment store, including housing for a diesel generator. The main entrance to the grounds is to be located off the old Athboy Road. The site falls into both Meath County Council and Navan Town Council's area which means planning applications will be submitted to both authorities. Earlier this year, the club finalised a deal to sell part of its land holding fronting onto Brews Hill, with the proceeds to fund the new training facility. An Aldi discount licensed foodstore is currently under construction on the Brews Hill site after planning permission was granted to the German in October. The Aldi development will include a foodstore with a gross floor area of 1,541 sq m and net retail area of 1,12sq m, associated signage, landscaping, boundary treatments and 114 surface level car parking spaces. A new two metre-high wall is to be built along the western and southern site boundary and part of the existing site boundary wall along Brews Hill will be removed and replaced with a 0.5 metre high wall with railing above it. A new vehicular access point has been developed from Brews Hill. This is the second discount foodstore currently under construction in Navan. A Lidl discount foodstore is at an advanced stages of construction at the former Navan Greyhound Track on the Trim Road. Navan is one of the last major towns in the county to see a German-owned discount foodstore built.
