Plans lodged for major new Navan development

Plans for a major new development at Clonmagadden, Navan, which will include a shopping centre, leisure complex, community facilities and 577 housing units have been lodged by local development company, Vitgeson. The development is proposed for a 24.7 hectare site at Blackcastle and Batterstown, which is part of the larger Clonmagadden Strategic Development Zone (SDZ) and the site would have access from both the Kingscourt Road and the Slane Road. The proposal is for the development of the project over a 10-year period. The proposed development would include 577 dwelling units, including a mix of detached, semi-detached, terraced houses and apartments as well as a three- and four-storey block of 45 aged housing units. The project also includes plans for a new two-storey 16-classroom primary school on a three-acre site, a playing pitch and two-storey clubhouse, open spaces and children's play areas. A neighbourhood centre located around a large civic square would include a neighbourhood convenience store, a three-storey leisure centre, a two-storey medical centre, smaller retail outlets, restaurants, take-away facilities and non-retail service units, an 18-bedroom guesthouse over five floors, a two-storey public house, a veterinary surgery, shop and a pharmacy, as well as 2,434 sq metres of office space, including a five-storey landmark building at the northern edge of the civic square. The development would also include a two-storey and a single-storey creche, a public library, 111 underground, 385 surface and 170 multi-storey car parking areas. It would also include a large public open space including a landscaped lake/water feature. Permission is also sought by the developers for new roads, footpaths, cycleways, site landscaping, advertisement signage, sewers, watermains, electricity supply and telecommunications infrastructure and all associated site works.
