Kells and Navan babies among first of decade

The New Year was particularly joyful for families in Kells and Navan who were celebrating the births of some of the first babies of the decade. Kells couple, Emer and Alan Morgan, had an extra special reason to celebrate the New Year when their first baby, little Elizabeth Morgan, was one of the first Meath babies born in 2010. Elizabeth, who weighed in at 7lbs, 3oz arrived at 5.06pm on 1st January at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. Both mum and baby are doing well, although Elizabeth is currently in the special care unit because of an infection, but is expected to join her mum and dad at home in Kilmainham, Kells, next week. Elizabeth wasn't due to arrive until 3rd January and Emer and Alan were at a New Year's Eve party in the Headfort Arms Hotel, Kells, when Emer's waters broke at around 11pm. "That was the end of the party and we set out for Drogheda," Emer recalls. "The roads were terrible and we had to take our time. We were passing through Navan at midnight, but we didn't stop to celebrate. We're waiting until later for the celebrations," she said. Emer said she was pleased with the teatment she received in hospital but was glad to be home and was looking forward to bringing home her new baby. Navan couple Sylvia Sheehy and Barry Finnegan were also celebrating the birth of their daughter, Ava Sheehy-Finnegan, who arrived at 9.54pm on New Year's evening. Ava weighed in at 9lbs 3oz, just over two hours after mum arrived at the hospital in Drogheda. She is the couple's third child and her sisters, Shannon and Abbie, were delighted by her arrival. She was three days overdue and everyone was eagely waiting to see her. Both mother and baby are now doing well and are at home in Tailteann Drive.
