Six Navan jobs go in Budget Travel collapse

Budget Travel's outlet in Navan Town Centre has closed following the shock collapse of the tour operator last week. It is understood that six people were employed by Budget Travel in Navan, all of whom have lost their jobs following the winding up of the company. Budget Travel had been in Navan Shopping Centre for nine years. The collapse of the tour operator has led to the loss of 172 jobs nationally and the closure of 17 shops. A provisional liquidator was appointed to the company who, together with representatives from the company, met with the Commission for Aviation Regulation last week. All holidaymakers who were due to travel back to Ireland last weekend returned on scheduled flights. Those who were due to travel abroad in the coming weeks with Budget Travel will now not be able to do so and passengers are entitled to a refund from the Commission for Aviation Regulation. Claim forms are available on www.aviationreg.ie However, customers of Budget Travel should check their invoice, and if this shows that their booking is through another tour operator, customers should contact that tour operator directly to find out if they will be able to travel. Martin Skelly of Navan Travel said they had not provided holidays with Budget Travel but have been working with those who were due to travel with the company, to provide them with an alternative. He said people know they will get a refund and are in a position to make new bookings. Mr Skelly said that, for some intending travellers, they were able to get the same destination and same hotel, and sometimes more cheaply. He said they had rearranged a small number of holidays for Budget Travel customers, mainly for customers whose travel plans were fairly immediate, and they were in the process of organising holidays for other customers. Navan Travel staff are also happy to help people process their claims.
