Kells footpaths link needed

The need to link the footpaths between Tobar Ban and Newrath View on the Oldcastle Road in Kells was highlighted by Cllr Conor Ferguson at a meeting of Kells Town Council last week. He said it was a child safety issue, pointing out that predominantly young families lived in the area. He said that children "were in and out of each other's houses" and to visit each other they had to cross the road. He pointed out that this was also the case for people walking to the nursing home and creche there. Cllr Tommy Grimes said it was one of the most used paths with a creche, nursing home and four new estates served by it. Cllr Sean Drew said he had raised the issue with the county council, asking them to provide the footpath through its disability funding but had been unsuccessful. He said that property-owners along the road were supportive of the footpath proposal.
