Rosie's back in action... doing what she does best for Navan charities

The end of the month will see Rosie Caffrey - popularly known around Navan as 'Wee Rosie' - make a presentation of monies to the local branch of the Special Olympics, following her recent fundraising night in Teach na Teamhrach at Balreask, Navan. Rosie will make the presentation in the same venue on Saturday night, 31st October. The Navan woman is celebrating 21 years of fundraising, and many charities have benefited from her organisational skills over the years, beginning over two decades ago when she worked for the Irish Wheelchair Association. This year is also special for her as she had been very ill last year, and her friends and supporters ran the event in her absence. "I just love doing it," she said. "And last year, when I wasn't well, people said to me that they would run the event. I had been in Our Lady's Hospital, and then in Rathfeigh Nursing Home, and my niece brought me to the Balreask for the night." She made up her mind that she would be back in action this year, and everybody was delighted to see her back in the former Balreask Arms for this year's fundraising event. "I was in Lourdes twice, and the nurses were at the function over the past two years. Please God, I'll be able to organise an event for them next year," added Rosie. Other charities to have benefited over the years includes the Chernobyl Children's project. Ray Murtagh will perform the music at the cheque presentation night on 31st October.
