Swedish cycle success

After many weeks of planning and preparation Aisling Group International Charity cyclists successfully negotiated the roads in Stockholm, Sweden in their fundraising Cycle Tour. The unique tour was launched by the deputy Mayor of Stockholm Ewa Samuelsson from the Clarion Hotel and the group were also welcomed by Ulf Frideback of Stockholm City Council who took time to explain some of the local heritage and culture of the Swedish capital. Supported by the Swedish-owned Boliden Tara Mines, the Aisling International riders enjoyed the superb weather and took on the testing routes which were organised by an experienced member of the Swedish Cycling Federation, who also accompanied the tour at all times. Aisling, which works in the field of education/training, prevention, recovery and drug-free sports and work policies, has extensive links internationally especially in Sweden which has the lowest rate of drug use in Europe and is recognised internationally for its effective social services. Planning has already begun for the charity's 2010 calendar of events which includes a Scandinavian Cycle Tour (visiting a number of countries). The second event scheduled will be the Lake Vattern two-day cycle, which is a gruelling 300km (186 miles) circuit through picturesque scenery around Lake Vattern in southern Sweden. The Lake Vattern cycle is the largest non-stop recreational cycle tour in the world. Other events planned include a trip to Brazil as well as walks, runs and other healthy lifestyle activities. On Sunday, 8th November Vicar Street will host Aisling's music extravaganza. All proceeds will go directly to supporting the Aisling Group International's services for young people, families and communities.
