Successful event at Bohermeen

Dunboyne's Fiona Reid won the Fr Delany Cup at Bohermeen on Sunday. Richard Byrne and Derek Croal (Bohermeen) secured fourth and fifth places in the Rennicks Cup. The athletes had to deal with five miles of a testing course around the Bohermeen roads as well as high summer-like temperatures. In the early stages of the race the athletes raced along the Famine road before they headed down hill to Ardbraccan. The 100 athletes pushed on from there with Dunleer's Martin Quinn going on to win from Paul Duffy (Sportsword) followed home by Davie Carrie (Dunleer) in third place with Byrne and Croal next across the line while Paddy Mangan (Dunshaughlin) put in an impressive run to secure sixth. Bohermeen won the four-man team event from Dunleer who were second with the Bohermeen B team securing third place while Trim were fourth. The Bohermeen senior men's team won the six-man Rennicks Cup from Trim who had a large turnout on Sunday Kathleen Luddy daughter of the late Attie Rennicks presented the Rennicks Cup to the winning Bohermeen squad. The junior men's race was won by Kevin Murray of Glenmore. In the ladies race, Fiona Reid of Dunboyne produced a fine effort to win from Orla Timmons (Star of Sea) with Linda Gunning (Bohermeen) running her fastest five-mile race in years to secure third place overall. Reid's winning time was 30.36 and in achieving her win she bridged a 12-year gap as she last won this event in 1997. Dunboyne AC's Sean Kinnane also did well to win the over-45 category in a time of 28.42, a personal best for the distance. Dunboyne AC had a number of their new recruits involved in the Bohermeen event with good performances from Ray Mitchell and Caroline Maguire. Drogheda & District won the Fr Delany Cup from Dunshaughlin and Bohermeen. Bohermeen won the Rogers Cup for the best juvenile club and also the Bohermeen Pioneer Cup for the best Meath club in the junior programme which contained 22 juvenile races. Meath Track League Dunboyne's Paul Gorey had a good run in the inaugural Dingle marathon finishing in three hours 33 minutes. Sean Murphy of Trim AC finished an excellent ninth in the Dingle half-maraton while Aine Kenny (Trim) completed the Bristol half-marathon along the same course used for the world half marathon championships in 97 minutes. Both Trim runners are fine-tuning their preparations for the 30th Dublin marathon in October.
