140 in Rathkenny"s annual charity walk

A total of 140 participants took part in the annual Rathkenny Charity Walk which was held on Saturday 23rd May. Organiser Sheila Hoey and the committee have extended thanks to everyone who helped out and participated in the event. Participants were from Rathkenny and the surrounding areas of Stackallen, Grange Castletown, Navan, Lobinstown, Slane, Ardee, Nobber, Oristown, Kilbeg, Wilkinstown, Drumonrath and Kingscourt. Sheila Hoey said it was one of the most successful walks that they had organised over the last 18 years. Money raised this year goes towards the St Luke"s Hospital for Cancer Care and to Aware, the organisation that helps people who suffer from depression. A presentation night will be held in the Lacken Pub, Rathkenny, on Saturday 27th June at 9.30pm. Representatives of St Luke"s Hospital and Aware will be present to receive their cheques. Thanks went to all the sponsors for contributing towards the event. These include Patrick Halpenny and his motorbike colleagues who led the walkers on the five-mile route. Doughtie"s of Wilkinstown provided food afterwards in the Lacken Pub, Rathkenny. Also thanked were Louise and John McKeown and Corby and Kathleen Hoey, Geoff Cooney of Tiernan"s in Wikinstown who provided water to the participants en route, and the Slane branch of the Irish Red Cross which provided an ambulance which was available if needed. Caffrey"s Bakery, Ardee, provided desserts after the food in The Lacken.
