Baconstown bury time capsule for 25 years

Na Fianna GLG held a very enjoyable and successful La na gClub day at its pitch in Baconstown on a gloriously sunny day. The event started with a parade of all the underage teams (boys and girls" football, hurling and camogie) from under-eights up to under-14s. The parade ended as the teams faced the tricolour and joined club under-16 footballer Sarah Jane Farley as she sang the national anthem. This was followed by a whole series of novelty races, mini games, penalty shootouts and long pucks. The many side stalls of throwing the sponge, putting, picture quiz, guessing the number of sweets in a jar or the weight of a cake kept young and old entertained. Most people took the opportunity to complete a short questionnaire to pen their thoughts on sheets of paper which were placed in a time capsule, along with photographs, current correspondence and copies of the week"s edition of the local newspapers. The time capsule has now been set under concrete and will not be opened until 2034.
