Sewerage works create road problems for Moynalty

HUGE volumes of traffic are using the Ballintlieve, Billywood-Farnadooney and Shancarnan Cross link roads around Moynalty while the current sewerage works are underway in the village, according to Kells councillor Bryan Reilly this week. He called on Meath County Council to agree a revised traffic management plan for the entire area and make the three roads mentioned 'local access only'. Cllr Reilly said residents on the roads were living in fear of a major accident owing to the amount of traffic using those routes as short cuts, while the village centre was closed. He said he had witnessed the danger on site with locals and found stretches covered in mud, with children waiting for the schoolbus covered in spray from passing heavy goods vehicles. 'There was now a strong possibility that the school transport might be withdrawn from the roads concerned, on safety grounds,' he said. Cllr Reilly said he had contacted the engineer in charge on several occasions and urged immediate corrective action. It was a 'total disgrace' that the council and contractors involved had been ignoring the problem for over a week. He also welcomed the new footpath in Drumconrath village, from Doyles garage to the doctor"s surgery. He also said he had numerous representations from locals, who welcomed the improved safety provided by the path for those on their way to and from the surgery, he said.
