Sinn Fein announces Slane candidate

Meath Sinn Fein has selected Sinead Burke to contest the Slane electoral area in the local authority elections next year. Ms Burke defeated former general election candidate, Joanne Finnegan, to win the nomination. Ms Burke is a mother of one and comes from Dunmoe in the Slane area and has been a member of the party for the last seven years. She works as the editor of a national magazine and also with Navan Travellers Workshops and has vast experience in the voluntary and community sector in Meath, including membership of the Stackallen Boyne Action Group, directorship of Navan Educate Together Primary School and directorship of a soon to be built Affordable Childcare Facility. 'As a young mother I am all too aware of the difficulties facing young families in Meath. I have extensive experience in delivering primary school education, affordable childcare and affordable housing. I have also played a central roll in Sinn Fein"s campaign to protect services at Our Lady"s Hospital,' she said. 'Meath and the Slane electoral area in particular has grown extensively over the last decade. However, while developers have made millions, it has left many families scraping together to meet the mortgage while living in areas with poor infrastructure, transportation, schools, playgrounds and parks,' said Ms Burke. 'Many of the councillors who regularly show up for photo opportunities when new facilities are being opened ten years too late are the very people who had the opportunity to build such infrastructure into planning laws and ensure that infrastructure was built in conjunction with homes, rather than decades later,' she added. Defeated nominee, Joanne Finnegan, paid tribute to Sinead and said she would continue to do all she could to build the party and ensure Ms Burke is elected.
