McAteer strikes again

The opening race on Wednesday at Navan, The Kells Nursery Handicap was won by local trainer Liam McAteer. He landed the odds with his impressive colt Croisultan, which also won the Bellewstown festival. Owned by the local Brunaboinne Syndicate which comprises members of the Wolfe Tones GAA club, Croisultan was partnered on this occasion by Pat Smullen. 'Pat was delighted with the horse and we may go for the Birdcatcher at Naas on Sunday even with a penalty,' said McAteer. 'It would be great if Pat was available, but if not we may utilise an apprentice and reduce the weight,' he added. The Meath flavour continued at Navan for the second race which was won by the Joanna Morgan-trained 20/1 outsider Fairy Flow.
