Soccer start postponed

The opening of the Meath & District League soccer season has been postponed for a week. The 2008 / 2009 soccer season was due to kick-off this Friday night with two games, one in Navan and one in Moynalty. However, due to the heavy rain over the past week and the gloomy forecast for the next few days, the MDL Fixtures' Committee have postponed the action for a week. "Due to the persistent wet weather of the last couple of weeks, the kick- off to the MDL season is put back one week to weekending 24th August," stated MDL secretary Gerry Gorman. "All scheduled matches for this Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well as games scheduled for Tuesday, 19th, Wednesday, 20th and Thursday, 21st August are off," he added.
