40 evening courses on offer in Trim school

BOYNE Community School, Trim, is offering an interesting programme of night classes for those who want to undertake skill, hobby or craft courses as part of a New Year resolution to get out, do something new and meet new people.

Monday night courses include first aid, patchwork, an introduction to gardening, painting for pleasure, computers for beginners (also on Tuesdays), computers for improvers, photoshop, interior décor, creative writing, a time for you, aerobics and t'ai chi.

New courses on offer this term on Tuesdays are guitar for beginners, and PAD where participants learn how to use a defibrillator. The IT courses include Solidworks (CAD, computer aided design), the ECDL or Computers Made Easy.

Other useful skills are woodwork, entertainment cookery, Italian for improvers, Spanish for beginners, wine appreciation or golf lessons. In courses like yoga, healing meditation, style & image (starts 22nd Feb) and parent to parent, course participants can improve the way they relate to themselves and others.

On Wednesday night, people can enrol for a diploma course in Special Needs Assistant if the participant already hold a certificate. It is a Fetac level Six course and lasts for 10 weeks. Schools are now employing such assistants, but applicants need to be qualified.

Returning to Learning would be ideal for those who would like to do a certificate course but fear essay writing. In this course, participants learn to maximise their time and find the style of learning best suited to them.

Soft furnishings, Spanish for improvers, Italian for beginners and pottery have always been extremely popular in Trim. Art history and appreciation is also a useful skill while keyboard skills should be learned either before or after a computer course to get up the speed in typing.

For those who would like to develop their knowledge of Microsoft Word and who may or may not proceed to do the ECDL, there is a five-week course in Advanced Word on offer followed by a five-week course in file management and general computer use.  You can enrol for either or both of these courses.

People new to Ireland who need better language skills in English can attend English as a second language.

Places on weekend courses in April (5th & 6th) in basket-making and bog oak sculpture can be reserved now. In both courses, the fee includes materials like willow or piece of bog oak.

Enrolment takes place daily from 9th January (12 noon - 1pm and 4pm - 5pm) and on Wednesday 16th January (7pm - 8.30pm). Postal applications can also be made.  Classes start the week beginning 28th January and are six, eight or 10 weeks long. With over 40 courses on offer, there is bound to be something to interest everyone.
