Navan Town held in six goal thriller

Navan Town3

Clones Town3

THERE were plenty of goals scored as Navan Town and Clones Town played out a high-scoring draw in this top of the table Meath & District League  Div. 1 clash on Sunday.

The home side held the lead on three occasions only for the visitors to claw their way back into the contest.

Brendan O'Donnell and Pa Sweeney opened the scoring for Navan Town from corners which were delivered expertly by Kevin Dunphy who used the wind to his advantage. At the interval Navan Town led 2-0.

A mistake in defence allowed Clones Town to get through for their first goal and a chance to get back into the game. Aided by the elements the visitors went on to grab an equaliser when they again capitalised on a mix up at the back.

It was looking promising for Navan Town when Mark Power put them 3-2 up with a volley that was good enough to win any game. Again Dunphy was involved with O'Donnell setting the ball up for Power to finish.

However, the action wasn't over as Clones Town moved upfield to earn a draw with a late, late, equaliser. Excellent for Navan Town were Power and Sweeney.

Navan Town - L Smith; C Dowdall, D Gavin, G O'Dowd, R Melia, K Dunphy, J McCabe, M Power, B O'Donnell, C Rogers, P. Sweeney. Sub - C Hosie for McCabe.

DIVISION 3

Johnstown1

Sheelin2

This was the proverbial game of two halves with Johnstown dominating the first 45 minutes before Sheelin came back to win with two second-half goals.

The home side created plenty of opportunities in the opening half using the wind to good effect to create chances and they deservedly went ahead when Dave Grumley netted.

Having to face into the conditions after the break provided Johnstown with plenty of problems as Sheelin started to get the upper hand. Sheelin scored an equaliser from a corner before going on to get a second as Johnstown were left to regret missed chances in that opening half.

Among those to sparkle for Johnstown were Eoin Sheridan, Maurice Mulvaney, Donal Cuffe and Stevie Okakpu.

Johnstown - G Kuczynski; E Sheridan, M Mulvaney, D Grumley, D Cuffe, K O'Connell, J Flynn, C Croke, V Ekanem, R Croke, K Burke. Subs - S Okakpu for Burke, D Reilly for Flynn, A Ryan for O'Connell.
