Seneschalstown's semi final spot

Seneschalstown3-10

Naomh Malachy1-2

SENESCHALSTOWN booked a Leinster Ladies' SFC semi-final place with a comprehensive victory over Louth champions Naomh Malachy in foggy conditions at Kilcurly, Dundalk, on Friday night.

Fiona Mahon led the way for the Meath champions in the first-half with five points, but the home defence caused problems for the Yellow Furze side who were guilty of nine wides in that period.

Mary Sheridan, Eimear O'Carroll and Stephanie Byrne added points to leave the visitors ahead by 0-8 to 0-1 at the interval, with Naomh Malachy's only score coming from a free.

Seneschalstown were also unlucky to have centre-back Louise McKeever sinned-binned midway through the half, which forced them to make changes.

Goals from corner- forwards Adele Carolan (two) and O'Carroll increased the Seneschalstown lead and killed off any hopes Naomh Malachy had of a revival.

Mary and Siobhan Sheridan dominated the midfield exchanges, with the outstanding Mahon always offering sound support, while McKeever and Philomena Sheridan were solid in defence.  Byrne and Carolan also impressed.

Seneschalstown will be away to the 2006 Leinster champions Ballyboden, St Enda's (Dublin) in the semi-final next Sunday (3.0), in a repeat of last year's provincial final which Ballyboden won by a point.

Ballyboden defeated Shamaliers (Wexford) in the other quarter-final by 1-24 to 1-4. Seneschalstown will be without goalkeeper Louise Byrne, who is out through injury, and midfielder Grainne Nulty, who is abroad, for the remainder of the campaign.
