Coogan looking to revive Parkvilla's 'glory days'

Former Navan Cosmos manager Derek Coogan will take charge of Parkvilla for the forthcoming 2018/'19 season with Mervyn Ennis assisting.

After 50 years playing in the Leinster Senior League Parkvilla have applied to enter the NEFL as they open a new chapter in their history. Both Coogan and Ennis are former Parkvilla players.

Coogan emerged through the schoolboy system at Parkvilla and he also coached at schoolboy level for the club. In recent years Coogan and Ennis guided the fortunes of Navan Cosmos with the team winning the NEFL Challenge Cup in 2017 before withdrawing from the league.

At one stage during the 2016/2017 season Cosmos were involved in six competitons but their hopes in each of them faded except the Challenge Cup with the Navan side defeating Bellurgan 4-1. Now Coogan and Ennis will be concentrating on improving the fortunes of Parkvilla.

"My history with Parkvilla goes back a long way. I played with them in the glory days when they played in the top division of intermediate football. We would be hoping to improve the fortunes of the club but it will take a lot of hard work by everybody involved. Our aim is to bring something new and fresh to the club," he said.
