Ger fox rocks thurles

Ardcath jockey Ger Fox was on the mark yesterday at Thurles with the aptly-named He Rocks in the Rock Of Cashel Handicap Chase for trainer Steve Mahon who used to train in Meath where he enjoyed success with the Jimmy Swan-owned Prince of Tara.

He Rocks was backed from 33/1 to 14/1 and the win was helped by the fall of 7/2 favourite Glen Ode at the second last.

Fox was able to ease his mount down to win by over five lengths

'He is a horse that I've held in the same regard as Prince Of Tara which won the Troytown - he gallops all day and jumps like a buck. It's a long way to get to a Troytown but I can see this lad progressing along those lines,' said the trainer.
