Sadhbh O'Brien and Luke Victory.

Euro medals for Meath Karate members

Meath Karate members were in action at the CIKA European Championships which was hosted by CIKA Ireland at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght earlier this month and returned home with three medals.

There was a silver medal for Luke Victory in the u-12 grade and double bronze for Sadhbh O’Brien in individual Kumite (fighting) at u-12 grade and team Kumite when she stepped up to the u-14 grade.

The u-14 comprised O'Brien, Ava Clare and Rachel Slevin and they were in great form as they defeated a strong Welsh team, but lost out to the girls from Three Rivers Shotokan Karate Club, Lifford who went on to win in the final.

The CIKA European Open Championships had 761 entries from 12 countries participating in what was the biggest Karate event in Ireland this year.

Next year the event will take place in Leuven, Belgium.

Meath Karate will send a squad to this year's Belgian Open next month and will hope to add to the bronze medal won by O’Brien last year.
