FOR SALE: Four Pairc Tailteann floodlights (as good as new)

FERGAL LYNCH
The floodlights that once illuminated Pairc Tailteann are being offered for sale to clubs in Meath.
An email circulated to the clubs this week offered the four 700 lux lights, their poles and the powerbox for sale and the Co Board are hoping there will be enough interest in the lights to put bids to tender.
The lights were dismantled for safety reasons in 2015 after Loscher Moran Consulting Engineers were commissioned by Glenline Construction, on behalf of Meath Co Board, to carry out a survey.

The purpose of the report was to outline the  condition of the poles at their bases and the  bolts at each pole. The survey was carried out in March 2015.
The report highlighted that the condition of the bolts at each of the poles was unacceptable and required immediate attention.
It was also noted that some of the poles were constructed with the pole off-centre on the foundation and the foundations did not appear adequate to support the loading from the poles.
As a result of the summary and recommendations, Pole 1 was deactivated and lowered to the ground on the 27th April 2015. The top section of the masts on the remaining floodlights were taken down on the 10th June 2015.

The remaining sections of the poles were lowered in July of that year and have been kept in storage since.
Meath GAA Co Board officials met with the chairperson and other members of the National Facilities/Health & Safety Committee Infrastructure Committee in Croke Park, and Leinster Council representatives, to seek assistance in restoring the floodlights, but to no avail.
It was estimated that it would cost in the region of €100,000 to repair and restore the floodlights at Pairc Tailteann.
The issue is expected to be discussed at Wednesday night's Co Board meeting in Dunganny.
