Suspected 'human trafficking' ring smashed in Castletown

SIX people have been arrested after Gardai smashed a suspected 'human trafficking' ring

It's believed up to 20 people, mostly males, were discovered after an operation which involved the Garda helicopter located and moved in on a house in Castletown, close to Nobber.

It's understood the operation was launched after a local garda stopped a Romanian man walking along a road in nearby Nobber where concerns for his wellbeing were raised.

Gardai secured a warrant and carried out the raid, where they found several people inside.

They were removed from the house and brought by minibus to Navan Garda station where they were this morning receiving attention while the services of interpretors were also being sought.

Three men and three women — believed to be from eastern Europe - were arrested and taken to Kells and Ashbourne Garda stations.

Gardai at Navan were refusing to comment but more details are expected to emerge this morning.
